It took them many years and various lineup changes untill their debut album IRON MAIDEN came out in 1980. That year was like the birth of the rise of NWOBHM and the death of Heavy Rock bands in Britian.
Iron Maiden would go on to release 16 studio albums, have 3 lead singers (n record and a few drummers and guitarist changes. But it was always bassist Steve Harris at the Helm of this band Dave Murray did join and leave Iron Maiden in the early days, but he's been on every album.
Flash forward to 2006. I was visiting my Aunt Kathy in Palmerston North (before she became a total bitch to me). I turn on the TV and comes on CLASSIC ALBUMS Documentories. Its a series of how they created some of the biggest land mark albums in music history
On that night episode was Iron Maiden "Number of the Beast" this was the first album with Bruce Dickinson on lead vocals and their launching record in the United States.
At the time of my life I had just became a Metalhead 7 months prior (October 2005) and I was just starting to discover allot of old Heavy Metal bands from England. I was listening to allot of Metallica, Slipknot, Def Leppard, Motorhead and I was still listening to the retarded Kylie Minogue who's career had taken a backseat due to a Breast Cancer diagnosis.
By the end of August 2006 Iron Maiden had put out a new album "A Matter of Life and Death" I fell in love with the track "The reincarnation fo benjamin Briggs" Its a really epic song and this record did sell a bit more than last few Maiden albums (with or without Dickinson)
In September 2006 I sent a photograph of me holding a broom out of my mothers pantrey cuboard. I had attached a flame to the end of the Broom Stick as it was stolen from THE WICKER MAN promo.
I mean you have all seen a photo of Bruce Dickinson holding a torch. So I intimidated Bruce by stealing the flame from his photo and putting it on mine
I emailed this photo to the HOST OF QUIZMANIA and the next night I was chosen to be the KING OF QUIZMANIA for the night. Unfortunately my parents were going through a bitter separation living at odds ends of the house so I never got to record this episode (since my Dad fucked around with the VCR)
I will never forget Quizmania host Amy Parks saying to the camera "HEY DOESN'T HE LOOK LIKE THE GUY FROM IRON MAIDEN?"
His name is Martin, HELLO MARTIN, hes from Sydney and conicidently Martyin has been a Kylie/Dannii minogue fan for 13 years. He is a stop motion animators. Martin just became an Iron Maiden fan and this photo is intimidating Bruce Dickinson.
My photo was featured on Quizmania a few times as I gave myself the title MARTIN THE THRASH METALHEAD. Since I was listening to awesome shit like Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax at the time
In September 2007 I had a wet dream when it was announced that Iron Maiden was going to tour Australia for the first time since 1990. The day tickets went on sale I snapped up a GA ticket for $150AUD. Back in the day it was very fucking expensive to see any band at Acer Arena for GENERAL ADMISSION.
I got to see Iron Maiden on the 10th Feb 2008 at Acer Arena. Steve Harris daughter opened up the show and she was pretty shit! Then came on the bullshit emo crap. Behind Crimson Eyes came on stage and for the next 30 minutes we just booed at them, gave them the finger, yelled out FUCK OFF (repediatly) and some men were even brave to belt a bottle at the lead singer.
It was hiarrious this Metalcore wannabe band was booed off stage before IRON MADIEN. Nobody dare steals Iron Maidens thunder!
Iron Maiden went on stage after Churchhill FIGHT ON THE BEACHES was blaring over the P.A before the band launched into ACES HIGH. That concert was just so fucking awesome. The guys running out on stage, Bruce changing into his trooper outfit as he prowled the stage with the union jack, flames going off, fireworks, backdrop scne changes.
fuckign Kylie Minogue could never do any of this shit because shes too busy sucking up to her homosexual/bisexual/hetrosexual dancers. She did spend a ton of money on a bunch of shit on her 2011 tours. But her gigs don't have any TALLS FLAMES OR JUMPING OVER MONITORS
At the end of the concert, Dave Murrary threw out the rest of his guitar picks. One of them ended up hitting me in the chest. I caught it and I was so stoked to be the owner of a blue guitar pick with the name DAVE MURRARY IN GOLD
After seeing Iron Maiden, It opened the doors to seeing other Metal bands in Sydney, if not the rest of the world. These days I'm not that much of a DIE HARD Maiden fan. But I'll still give Iron Maiden a listen any day of the week.
In June 2018, after a whole year of living in London, I made it across town to Cart & Horses "THE BIRTHPLACE OF IRON MAIDEN" I had been coming to London since 2011 and I had never really gotten to this location.
I did go find the RAINBOW THEATER in 2011 which is now a church. But going to this pub in East London, 2 tube stops from my work was just mind blowing. 1/2 of the pub is dedicated to Iron Maiden's early days. Theres merch on the wall.
Iron maiden played at Cart and Horses from 1975-1977 untill problems caused them to be banned from this pub untill 1978.
Many old members of Iorn Maiden have been known to return to this pub for a pint.
While I was there I took a photograph of me on the stage and drank a PINT of TROOPER. A lager created by Iron Maiden.
