July-August 2012 and I only went to 2 countries in Europe. Germany and Turkey. I was planning on getting to a shitload of countries in Europe that year but I had bigger fish to fry in Iran and India.
June-July 2013 was the time where I overland it from London to Istanbul. I guess you could say OVERLAND METALHEAD was born out of the ashes of that trip. I went to 6 countries on that trip, but I barely touched on SLOVAKIA!
It would take me 2 years and 6 days to get back to Europe. I didn't leave Australia for 17 months between July 2013- December 2014. I was paying for sex, not working enough and I was cancelling trips I was supposed to take because I had so much fucking work in Sydney.
Going from the UK to Ireland was awesome. But then living in Birmingham and waiting for a job to come by was shit. By the time I had a trial at Aston Conference Centre in August 2015, I was just so UNHAPPY!
That Ravioli incident in Aston made me jump on a bus to Brussels and overland it to Sofia. I got on 8 new countries in my time spent in Europe that year.
I went back to Europe 8 months after the Ravioli incident. After the stinking xenophobic outburst in Smethwick and the time wasted going from Aberdeen to Berkshire for a Chef job I didn't want, I lost motivation to live and work in the UK (AGAIN!).
So back on the bus to continental Europe, I went. I got to Poland and had to change planes in Kiev, Ukraine after a stomach bug setback in Warsaw. I left Europe at the end of June 2016 to finish off my map of South East Asia.
I was back in Europe on 21st November 2016. I left Australia behind, I got off the Trans Siberian Railway in Moscow as a 31-year-old. Little did I know it was going to take 51 weeks to get back to Asia.
In my time back in Europe at the end of 2016, I coloured in 7 nations on my map. As I sailed into Dover on the 7th December 2016 this would start a long 47 weeks without leaving the country.
After a 2 week trip to Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. I finished off the year in Malta and THE SOVEREIGN MILITARY ORDER OF MALTA.
2017 was shit in terms of travel. 50 weeks spent inside the UK, 6 new nations and only 2 passport pages used.
2018 came into frame. As I looked at my map of Europe, I had so many enclaves of unshaded countries, surrounded by bigger countries. Norway, Moldova, Vatican City, Belarus, Iceland and Portugal were screaming out to be visited.
I started 2018 with a tally of 62 nations. I got to Norway in January, Vatican City in February, Belarus in March, Iceland in April/May
By the time June came along, I was yelling my head off to get out of London and that's what I did.
I flew one way to Pula Croatia and just head south. I got to all the countries I needed in a period of 9 days. I was lagging around Bosnia for most of the time but to storm through Montenegro, Kosovo and Albania in one weekend was awesome.
After ending up in Athens I was kinda broken. Not in a financial way, but I had nothing new in this part of Europe to visit.
7 years have passed since I first came to Europe. I have been to 45 countries in Europe in that time frame. So all that I got left in Europe is 3 countries (1 of them shouldn't count as it's in ASIA).
3 countries left to go until i can say: "I'VE BEEN TO EVERY COUNTRY IN EUROPE".
