It all started on a hot Summer day Wed Jan 30th 2008.
I was given the day off work to go see Dream theater At the Hordern pavilion Moore park.
The day started by getting to the venue. As most Hordern Pavilion concerts beginning with lining up early, I got to the venue around midday. Only 30 people there. I was in the no bag lines.
SInce the day was hot we all pinched cardboard boxes to keep the ray outs. We all got sunburn after 6 hours in the sun.
The doors of the Pavilion slide open at 6:30pm. We all rushed in cloaked our shit & got to the barrier first.
A huge build up at the front was starting to happen. My big brother got "first to the barrier" pick & i was a row behind him.
SHow started at 7:30pm. WE had a curtain fall & a 3 minuet video intro of the history of dt.
THE LIGHTS WENT ON THE INTRO WAS PERFORMED. THEN IT WAS constant motion.
the CROWDED ROARED. EVERYONE IS PUSHING & SHOVING. wE ASRE ALL SIGNING, AIR GUIATARING, DRUMMING, BASING & KEYBOARDING TO THE SONG.
James tells us 20 years is BS we will never let this happen again. if he see anyone sneaking out he shall set them onfire with a flame thrower
The concert is 3 hours long, no bullshitter support bands & a 15 minute intervall.
The stage presence of death theater was somewhat interesting. all 5 members had their spot, Jordan could swivel his keyboard left & right + he used a keytar. John Petrucci used two steel blocks to rest his leg, Mike Portnoy had 2 Drum Kits in one and seeing john Myung live just amazed me. The projector screen was on hand to show cartoons of the NADS animation during "Dark Eternal Night" and other various animation
There was a octagon dream theater logo on a stick & 2 model ants around the stage
Midway through Forsaken i see a short girl next to me. She is leaning on my hips. I thought she was a short girl but then a big man told me she has fainted pick her up & take her out. So i picked her up & gave her to a security guard. she was rushed off to first aid. The heat was taking its toll. I was sweating like a pig in a denim jacket.
Intervall is called we all head to the bar. I remember getting 2 OJ & some Gatorade top revive me mid show. It gave me the energy to mosh
After 3 hours Dream Theater finished up with Pull Me Under & Metropolis Part 1. Mike told us: "Better late than never". "We will be back".
It was the end of a 3 hour concert. A concert that drew me into the world of Progressive Metal. It showed me the talents of studies musicians & it gave me the influence to become a Dream Theater fan.
I got in a cab & drove back to Central got on a train back to The west & drove home with my friend Steven. I had thought of 15 years i spent wasted listening to 2DAYFM, watching hours of Video Hits/Rage, buying CD singles, being a fanboy & meeting artist that faded away, getting punched out because of music preferences
I then said: I will be a metalhead for the rest of my life. I will no longer care about pop music & i will listen to more metal.
Every show since Megadeath i have thanked the artist for saving my life from shit music & i use vulgar words against those bitches i wasted my time on
