Since I started living in London in June 2017, I notice everyday on the tube POSTERS for Musical, plays, festivals and random shit!. Since July I started seeing Stockard Channing face all over London.
Why is Stockard face all over London? Well she is doing a play called Apologia at Trafalgar Studios for a 4 month stint. Also in this play were: Freema Agyeman (Doctor Who), Desmond Barrit, Laura Carmichael (Downton Abbey) and Joseph Millson (The Last Kingdom).
I had never heard of any of these other ACTORS/ACTRESSES. I don't watch TV and I wouldn't know any of them if I met them on the streets of London
Now the only thing allot of people remember Stockard Channing about, is for playing RIZZO in Grease. When you sit down and talk about Grease everyone remembers John Travolta for every other movie he has made in the last 40 years and everyone remembers Olivia Newton-John for what she did in music before and after this film.
I remember Stockard for the work she did on Sesame Street. She was the victim of the Number Painter gags.
But nobody really talks about the other characters in the movie such as the T birds, Principal McGee, the Pink Ladies, Eugine and the COACH. When I was visiting Los Angeles in 2010, I got to visit Eve Ardens grave at Westwood Memorial Park. The guy who played Kenickie (Jeff Conaway) died in 2011.
I have seen Grease, a shitload of times, I saw Olivia Newton-John live in 2012, I loved John Travolta performance in Pulp Fiction. But I have always wanted to see what Stockard gets up to. My Mum has seen her on a few episodes of the Good Wife
In September 2017 I brought a ticket to see Apologia on a Monday night. I paid £35 quid for the ticket but it was front road seat
The play starts off with Kristin(Stockard Channing) cooking a meal in the oven when her son Peter brings over his American girlfriend Trudie. The oven malfunctions and it causes the chicken not to cook properly. Peter and Trudy (Laura Carmichael) give Kirsten a birthday present from Liberia. Its a tribal mask.
Kristin is stunned with this mask. She is shocked to discover that her son met his Girlfriend a PRAYER meeting as she is a Marxist and even raves about having Karl Marx photo about her toilet.
Claire (Freema Agyeman) comes into the picture. She is Simon's Girlfriend. Simon is Kirsten other son and Claire has been worried about her boyfriend mental health and how he plods along from job to job.
Hugh (Desmond Barrit) comes into the shot as he is a life long friend of Kirsten. They became friends in the 1960s when Kirsten had moved to the UK and started protesting about the Vietnam. Its the night of Kristin birthday. Since the Chicken didn't end up being cook, Hugh brings over a Chinese meal. One of the meal has a FINGER NAIL in it.
The Highlight of the night is when Claire (A Soap star) raves about spending £2000 on a white dress. Moments later Trudy spills RED WINE on Clare's dress as she starts throwing water to get arid of the stain. Hugh walks by and angry tells them "TO THROW SOME FUCKING SALT ON IT"
Kristin mocks Claire and ends up telling her she should have found a better way to invest in £2000. Claire slams Kirstin for the way she treats her son.
The phone ring and its Clares phone. Kristin answers it while Clare keeps asking for her phone back. Kirsten tells Clare (outloud) that her client has booked the hotel room for THURSDAY NIGHT AND HE CAN'T WAIT TO FUCK YOU IN THE ARSE!" Its seems that Clare and Simon's relationship problems have caused Clare to become a HOOKER!
Act I ends when Everyone else goes to bed. Kristin is upset with her son Simon not being present and also upset with Peter for being angry at her for not mentions his brother and I in Kristin memoirs. Clare, Trudy and Hugh stay the night over. As the lights dim Simon (Also played by Joseph Millson) comes onto the set as the kitchen is in Darkness!
Jimi Hendrix PURPLE HAZE is blairing over the PA as the interval starts.
Kristin comes into the room. Simon has a bloody hand after falling over and gashing his hand on BROKEN GLASS. Kristin gets her FIRST AID kit out to pull the glass out and bandage it. Bonding over this injury, Kristin is sad to hear about her sons problems in life, especially with his on and off GIRLFRIEND. She tell him all about what happened tonight.
Simon starts telling the story about how he went out to Italy in the 1970's and Kristin wasn't there at the station to pick him up. Simon ended up getting picked up by a strange man and this man took care of him
The next morning everyone (par Simon) is back in the Kitchen. Peter has told everyone that he and Trudy are going to get married. Clare has decided to move on from Simon and wants to let Kirsten tell Simon that its over.
Hugh leaves to go back home but reminds Kristin about some Pro Kurdish protest going on soon. Before Peter & Trudy leave they tell Kristin they are going overseas to Botswana in the hope of finding new things. They walk about before Trudy comes back to talk about Apology and forgiveness.
Kristin goes down to sit down, as the room darkens she starts sobbing over the failures about her love for her son.
End of ACT II
All 5 characters went back on stage for a standing Ovation to take a bow. Stockard came back on stage to do one by herself.
At the end of the play. I really didn't bother wanting to meet Stockard in September. I didn't know where the back entrance was so I thought, FUCK IT!
I went back home to rave to Australian friends of mine that I had just seen Stockard Channing on stage. I don't really go to Plays, shows or musicals. I'm not gay and its not my thing. The last time I saw a musical was "Rock of Ages" I saw that on Broadway when I lived in New York City.
I fucking hate musical because the singing is shit and the singing of GLAM METAL songs on BROADWAY really did piss me off. "THATS NOT HOW YOU SING WHITESNAKE" is what I had been yelling out throughout my only Broadway show in NYC
After seeing photos on Instagram Stockard has taken the time to meet some of her fans after the show. I decided on the 4th of November 2017 that I would go see Apologia again and get a photo with Stockhard.
This is what I did that day. Less than 24 hours before i flew to Georgia. I met Stockard Channing
"Stockard, you were awesome tonight! I loved you in Grease & my Mom loved you in THE GOOD WIFE! I'm so happy I emigrated from Australia to LONDON"
I told Laura Carmichael that she puts on a great American accent. Desmond Barrit said I was becoming allot more British and less Australian and I had to priase Joseph for doing two roles at once!
After meeting Stockard and the cast, I called my Mum back home in Sydney to tell her my great news!
