When Roger Waters quit Pink Floyd in the early 80's he took with him the right to "The Wall" LP but while he was playing half filled theater Pink Floyd was playing stadium but without the bricks in the wall. Now Roger Waters makes billions off that Album and the show he does. The best seats in the house for a Roger Water concert is around $700.
I have been a fan of Queensryche since 2008. I can listen to their first 4 records, but i don't even dare both going past Empire. I was happy to see Queensryche in 2009 playing songs of: Empire & Rage for Order but i disliked hearing "American soldier". I met Geoff Tate that night as his signed my Empire CD.
A month later Geoff Tate became a total douchebag when he shaved his head bald and started this bullshit cabarete show.
2 years later Geoff Tate sold out to Roadrunner Records by making his own Queensryche band release a shitty Rock record ("Dedicated to Chaos") without the Heavy Metal.
In 2012 Rockenfield, Wilton and Jackson were pissed off in the way Queensryche were heading. They pinched Todd La Torre from Crimson Glory and started their own band called "Rising West" selling out their first 2 gigs in 48 hour and only playing the earlier Queensryche records that have influenced the singing style of Todd.
This success of Rising West really did drive Geoff Tate up the walls. The band fired his wife and daughter mother later. Before a concert in Sao Paolo Geoff snapped at band mates he worked with for 30 years, going apeshit over the sacking of his wife and daughter. Geoff spat and punched Rockenfield and also swinged a few at Michael Wilton calling him and Scott all the names under the sun.
Queensryche did that gig while Geoff continued to spit at Scott and throw water at Michael. At the end of the gig everyone par Geoff Tate got out of the venue and went back to America to avoid any further contact with the big douchebag Mr.Tate
The last time Geoff Tate played with Queensryche was at the famous Rocklahoma festival where he told the crowd how awful the audience was.
After Geoff Tate was fired from Queensryche he launched a counter suit saying that he also owns the name Queensryche and that he can also have his own Queensryche band. So what did Geoff do? Hire a whole bunch of professional Metal artists: Simon Phillips, Rudy Sarzo, Bobby Blotzer etc and create another version of Queensryche.
Geoff had the brains to make another shitty Queensryche record, but he did have his nemesis backing him up. Frequency Unknown was released to negative review and if you look at the album cover it clearly states that Geoff Tate is saying "FUCK YOU" to his ex band mates.
Geoff Tate continued to be a douchebag. His hair would grow back, he continued to suck the wine out of his company and he ever snatched a phone off a fan and threw it behind his shoulder. Only someone like Axle Rose would do something like that, not a professional Prog rocker.
Queensryche on the other hand formally installed Todd as the bands new leader singer. With an amazing singer Queensryche got the magic back in the band they had been waiting 20 years for it to happen. Sold out shows and a brilliant new record the future is bright for Queensryche.
Two years on this is what happens: The original members get the name of Queensryche and they can play any of their songs. Geoff Tate on the other hand can no longer have a banded called: "GEOFF TATE QUEENSRYCHE" But he can play under the name "the original voice of Queensryche: Geoff Tate" for 2 years. Geoff Tate can only play Operation Mindcrime 1 & 2 in its entirety because he is the man who came up with that idea.
But if you ask me the whole Operation Mindcrime is a stinking fad. Not everyone wants to hear it in its entirely. If i want to see Queensryche I would want to hear songs off: The Warning, Rage for Order, Operation mindcrime 1, Empire and the recent self titled LP.
My advice is to not give any money or support to anything Geoff Tate does. I have only ever paid queensryche about $120 in direct sales in 2008-09 and if you split profits it means Geoff Tate only got about $24 of it.
I assume if you went out today and brought every Queensryche record except for Operation Mindcrime 1 & 2 then Geoff Tate wouldn't even get a Penny.
It also saddens me that since Todd La Torre left Crimson Glory and that band hasn't bothered finding a new lead singer. With the arrest and criminal charges of Jon Drenning i think its best to say Crimson Glory is dead. I will always love wearing my Crimson Glory shirt around town.
Anyway if Queensryche do come to town. Go see them, you won't be disappointed.
