At the end of 2013 i originally hoped to leave Sydney in November 2014 and head to the UK for Christmas. I was even supposed to go to Asia in July that year after putting out of going to Korea and Japan in September 2013
I didn't get to go to Asia in July this year because i was stuck with 2 jobs and i didn't get to leave for Europe in November because i was busy with a small but wonderful group at my private working locations.
I would have loved to spend Christmas with my Cousin Charles in London with his family or have it in Middlesbrough with all my extended Anglo-Saxon relatives.
But it looks like I am going to have to wait a while to get back to Europe. I am now on Vacation from work and i won't get back home until the end of January. So by going back to work in February it will give me enough work to do right through the year.
I am considering moving out of home and i always used to think it would be cheaper to rent in the UK than Australia but then i realise that yes there are some cheaper rents in Sydney for a room for less than $200AUD. I can't stand living at home with my mother at aged 29
Today i couldn't go to sleep. Its a bad bed pattern you get when your family buys Iced Coffee for a low dam X-mas markdown price
I ended up sleeping until 10am. I packed my bag and got myself over to my Sister in laws Parents houses.
I am a wonderful Uncle to two boys and a Girl. I am glad i have nephews and a Niece because without them i don't know what it would be like to raise kids or help raise other children.
I had allot of fun playing pranks on my nephews as their brand new racing cars have the same frequency as their other cars. So if my nephews press up, I PRESS RIGHT!
Left my Sister in laws parents house about 4pm and got the bus to Central Station. I can't believe i left my damn OPAL CARD at home. I discovered last week it was cheaper to get a bus to the airport from Burwood Station, but after leaving my card at home I am in no Position whatsoever to want to take 400 Bus from Burwood.
I got off at Central and just paid $16.40 for a ticket to Domestic Airport.
I got to the Domestic Airport Terminal 2 at 5pm. I already checked myself in online so there was no need to wait for the large amount of bullshit that is: waiting in line for a boarding pass, weighing your bag and hoping its under 7/10 KG.
The food at Sydney Airport is a complete markup, but everyone know its expensive to eat at any airport. I paid like 45 SGD in August 2012 to have a nice Chili Mud Crab before i came back home from Singapore.
So with little to eat but the Green tea gum in my pocket I just went online and started writing to people, wishing them a merry Christmas.
I am wearing my Nepali hat i got in Kathmandu July 2013 along with the Timor Leste scarf my good Timorese-Portuguese friend Dirce gave me at work.
I am so proud to be going to Timor Leste on boxing day. Its taken 2 years to get there but 15 years of supporting the people since i was 14. Timor Leste is my 31st Nation i have gone to and first Portuguese speaking nation i have visited and i still havent made to Portugal after some 3 trips to Europe in 24 months
As the plane took off i could smell something like bloody kerosene and i thought to myself "Thats a bad sign and then allot of turbulence happens because i see two dingbats playing on their flipping Nintendo DS during take off!
I was sitting next to a hot single mother and her teenager daughter. I thought to myself this could get romantic. But when i saw a packet of cigarettes in her bag I told myself "Forget it Martin you're an Asthmatic and you shouldnt date people who smoke because they will make you sick".
I got moved to the front where i got to have 2 empty seats next to me and easy access to the laboratory
Every time i fly domestic within Australia I get those Henry Rollins type of moment that you only know about through his spoken word. Go listen to "Airport Hell" where he realised how stupid can be going through a metal detector and not even knowing the difference to 13 A and 13 B
"Its like they have the seat belt icon and the don't smoke icon they should have the SIT THE FUCK DOWN SHUT THE FUCK UP LIGHT"
Also i can't stand children on flight that act all crazy. If my memory is clear i remember flying Malaysian Airlines to London in 2013 with an Exit row seat and seeing 2 pommy kids run up and down the aisle before a lovely Chinese-Malayan flight attendant told them "This isn't a playground"
I got to Darwin at 11.30pm at night. This was the first time in my life i ever went to Northern Territory even though i have no time to see any crocodiles. I have only ever been to NSW, Queensland and Canberra. So i have hardly seen much of my own nation.
It was the cheapest flight to Darwin was on Christmas day of 2014. I flew to New Zealand for a shitty cousin Reunion on Boxing day 2011 and i went to Cairns on X-mas day 2012 to have Christmas with my Anglo father for the first time since 2005. It is expensive to travel over the Christmas period.
If i booked my tickets early in August i probably would have only paid like $220 to go from Darwin to Dili, But the price on Boxing Day was bumped up to $300 and i couldn't be stuffed waiting 4 days in a Darwin Hostel for my flight to Dili.
I have never ever stayed overnight in an Australian Airport. You can't sleep at Sydney International Airport even if you're flight is at 6am in the morning. But you can sleep at Auckland Airport and even have a Kiwi Federal Police officer watching over you.
I get to Darwin at 11.30pm and my flight to Dili is at 5am so I don't think there will be allot of people loitering around Darwin Airport after midnight on Boxing Day and there is no point of going into town or getting a hostel dormitory bed.
Just sit at the airport with my netbook and listen to some REAL MUSIC!
