Tonight, in Digbeth, Armored Saint are going to rock the O2 institute in Digbeth. They have returned to the UK 19 months after their last tour. But tonight, is the first time they will ever play Birmingham.
Its amused me that Armored Saint has never played in Birmingham. They have toured the UK several times in the 80’s, 90’s 00’s and 2010’s. But, never to play Birmingham before does shock me!
I get inside the O2 around 7pm to see the first band “The Mighty Wraith” band They are a local band from Birmingham. They did a short setlist including an Iron Maiden cover of “The Number of The Beast. “The Might Wraith” bands consist of
Matt Gore - Vocals
Azza Potter - Guitars
Andrew Kirby - Drums
Chris Muzz – Bass
They have an EP out now called “Outcast” and they have even played Bloodstock Open Air.
After listening to their performance on YouTube, I must say that Chris Muzz has some wicked bass licks. I bet Cliff Burton has inspired the hell out of him.
Eradikator has a large amount of MERCH going on sale, even PATCHES. I mean you can’t have a Heavy Metal band without your own PATCH
Eradikator did a good set. They look like a Thrash Metal band and they are a Thrash Band! Allot of people are saying online they sound like Metallica. But they are doing their own thing. I love how their guitarist do have a bit of style like Yngwie.
I knew the setlist was going to be the same throughout the UK tour so I kept my eyes on the setlist throughout the gig
“March of the Saint” is a current staple in the bands setlist. No matter what album cycle tour they are on. They won’t ever leave this song out. It’s the title track of their first album.
“Long Before I Die” From the 1985 album "Delirious Nomad" Everyone was going wild at hearing this song. Jeff Duncan really does justice to what the late “Dave Prichard” did
John Bush started talking about the band latest video for “An Exercise in Debauchery” The video maybe a bit fucked up for a metal band when you combined sexual nature of Tinder and Online dating with Heavy Metal. But MTV isn’t banning it.
The truth about this song that it really does have the classic Armored Saint sound.
“After Me, the Flood” When I listen to this song on YouTube I feel like I can hear a bit of Phil Anselmo of Pantera. I mean this album was made in 2000 when the band got back together.
“In an Instant” a new track off their 2015 album. Your kind of think after all this time seeing them on 2 continents that you are going to hear songs you have never heard live
It was great to hear Last Train Home. Because last time I saw Armored Saint there was a fucking tube strike in London on the night of the gig. So, I had to get a bus to Victoria and sleep at the station till my morning bus to Birmingham.
The band put out a really great video for this song. This song also proves what a great singer John Bush is.
“Euphoria’s John started telling everyone that when he wrote thing song, it was about smoking CRACK as Crack was the top drug at the time. He also made a joke about not having hair now as someone heckled him that he had hair when he wrote this song.
Hearing this song does make me want to go watch all those 80’s PSA commercials about not doing crack.
After a bit of a Drum Solo by Gonzo the band launched into “Stricken by Fate” off the very first record. John Bush was up to his old antics of climbing up PA Systems. He just loves to do that.
“Mess” it’s a new song off the new album.
Armoured Saint jumped into an Aftermath. It’s an epic 6-minute song if you ask me. At time, I was looking at my phone to check the lyrics of this songs.
Left Hook from Right Field off their album "La Raza". It’s a pretty good song. John Bush was in a fighting spirit when he started singing this song.
The last two songs of the night were “Can U Deliver” and “Mad House” when I read the setlist that Mad House was the last song. I thought they were going to cover Anthrax as a Nod to the 11 years John Bush was in the band
Jeff Duncan gave me his Pick after the show and I shook hands with John Bush and the other guys after the gig.
I look forward to the next Armored Saint gig. I now have their shirt.
