But there are times in my life that visiting the grave of someone I knew or someone famous I admired had left an emotional impact on me.
These are the top 5 graves that have disturbed me
- My Great-Uncle William Anthony name on the memorial in Dunkirk.
In 1940 his brother William married a beautiful Canadian lady called Mary before he got shipped out to Dunkirk.
The Nazi’s invaded France that year and in June 1940 my Great Uncle William went M.I.A in Dunkirk. The Authorities say that he died 6-7th of June that year. They never found his body and I would hate to assume what the Nazi’s did to him.
After making contact with my Dad’s cousin in Scotland I found out that my Great Uncle Will name is on the memorial in Dunkirk. So I travelled overland from Vladivostok to get there.
Once I had found his name on the wall. I openly wept. It was 8.30am in the morning and by seeing his name W.Anthony under the Kings Scottish Guards made a grown man cry.
I kinda wish my Great Uncle’s body was recovered and buried in the cemetery nearby.
I went through hell on a day in Sheffield to find this one cemetery. Sheffield own Steve Clark died in 1990 after mixing alcohol and prescription medication. 15 years later I became a fan of Def Leppard. But it took me 5 trips to the UK to muster some courage to visit Sheffield.
It was a long day of walking around Loxley. Allot of the locals were bloody useless as none of them we’re DEF LEPPARD FANS.
To get to Loxley Cemetery I had to jump over some guys farm and I spent a good ½ an hour inspecting every single Tomb Stone before I found Steve's Grave
I got to the cemetery around 4pm at night. It was so awesome to walk around a cemetery covered in snow when darkness hit at that time. After checking my phone for Quorthon reference # I had a really hard time trying to find KV125.
An old lady stopped me in the cemetery and asked me who I was trying to find. I told her I was trying to find the grave of a Swedish musician who is buried her. She told me her Son’s grave was number xxx and she wished me luck that I would find Quorthon grave.
I ended up finding Quorthon grave at 5pm. I hand to turn a flashlight on so I could film at his grave. I said a few “HAIL SATANS” before I left.
In a period of 3 years. 42,000 Commonwealth troops died while 127,600 Japanese were killed in New Guinea.
I went to Port Moresby in April 2015. My main goal was to visit this cemetery. I spent a good hour at Bomana Cemetery paying my respecst to all those Australians, British, Dutch and Papuans who died in the name of Freedom and Justice in New Guinea.
It was so emotional to walk past the graves of 2 Australians who received Victoria Cross as their grave’s stood out amongst the others
In 2009 I became a fan of Darker Half. Brothers Vo and Dom Simpson had been influenced heavily on Jazz Music. They were both big fans of Frank Zappa.
I was not a fan of Frank Zapp, but I found him to be a great person. Why was he a great person. Well he make a big speech at the Senate in 1985 as he was against Censorship of Music. His instrumental album Jazz from Hell was given a Parental Advisory sticker all because of the song title “G-Spot” a part of the female anatomy.
Frank Zappa died of prostate Cancer in 1993 and was buried in an unmarked grave at Westwood Memorial Park among other musicians like Buddy Rich, Mel Torme, Sammy Cahn and Roy Orbison.
Frank is buried next to Lew Ayres. When I saw his unmarked grave I made a “Z” out of twigs to remind people that Frank is buried here.
